The background makes the shot. The same product on a cluttered kitchen table and on a stone podium in soft light are two different products to a buyer. A “proper” background used to mean a photo studio, lighting and a retoucher. Now one ordinary phone snapshot is enough — AI does the rest.
Step 1. Remove the old background
Upload the photo to the Studio tab in Photolyx and pick the “Remove background” tool. The AI finds the object's edges on its own — including tricky spots like fur, glass and thin handles — and returns a PNG with a transparent background. That file is ready for a marketplace listing, a slide deck or your website.
Step 2. Pick a new background
Two ways to go:
- An AI background from the gallery. Ready-made scenes — podiums, interiors, nature, holiday setups. Pick a scene and the AI blends the product in naturally: correct shadows, reflections and perspective.
- The studio look. For a classic catalog shot — a clean neutral backdrop, soft diffused light and a subtle shadow under the object. Looks like a professional studio shoot.
For seasonal campaigns one simple rule works: the background should sell the context. A travel mug “lives” against a winter landscape, cosmetics on a stone podium with botanical shadows, kids' toys in a bright playroom.
Step 3. Polish the shot
The same Studio tab has tools for the final pass:
- Remove objects — paint over a price tag, a wire or a stray hand with the brush and the AI fills in the background;
- Retouch — removes dust, scratches and small defects;
- Upscale quality — boosts sharpness and detail if the original was blurry;
- Extend the frame — paints beyond the original crop when you need another format: a square for the listing, a vertical for stories, a wide banner.
Common mistakes
- A background that's too busy. The backdrop should support the product, not compete with it. When in doubt, take a neutral studio scene.
- Unrealistic scale. Choose a scene where the product reads at a natural size: a mug on a table — yes; a mug filling half a seashore — too much.
- Different backgrounds across one catalog. Buyers scroll the search results — one store's listings should look like a series. Batch processing in Photolyx applies one scene to up to 10 photos at once.
What it costs
New Photolyx users get 100 lyx free (1 lyx = $0.01, no card required) — enough to process several photos and judge the result. After that you only pay for what you create — one edit costs a few lyx.
